How it works

Our volunteer recruitment process

We run a formal, structured recruitment process for every role. Every volunteer completes safeguarding training before taking up their position — roles involving direct contact with young people require an additional, enhanced level of vetting.

Step 1
Apply
Send your CV and a covering letter to volunteer@srhe.net, stating which role you're applying for.
Step 2
Shortlisting
Applications are reviewed against the role criteria. Shortlisted candidates are contacted to arrange interview.
Step 3
Interview
A structured interview, in person or by video call, with at least one member of the team.
Step 4
References
Two satisfactory references, requested directly from your nominated referees.
Step 5
Safeguarding training
Mandatory for every volunteer, in every role. Completed before you take up your position.
Step 6 — where required
Enhanced DBS check
Required in addition to safeguarding training for any role involving direct contact with young people.
Step 7
Appointment confirmed
A role agreement is issued and you're formally welcomed to the team.

Step 6 applies only to roles with direct contact with young people. Every other step applies to every role, without exception.
