Safeguarding Officer
Acts as SRHE's Designated Safeguarding Officer (DSO), holding overall responsibility for safeguarding across the organisation.
What you'll do
- Act as the first point of contact for safeguarding concerns raised by volunteers or members
- Make decisions about referral to statutory agencies, in line with the Safeguarding Policy
- Maintain accurate, confidential safeguarding records in line with policy
- Ensure all volunteers complete required safeguarding training before taking up their roles
- Review the Safeguarding Policy at least annually
Essential criteria
- Significant experience of safeguarding children and/or vulnerable adults in a professional or substantial voluntary capacity
- Completed (or willing to complete) Designated Safeguarding Lead-level training
- Sound, calm judgement and the ability to handle sensitive disclosures appropriately
- Understanding of relevant legislation, including the Children Acts and Care Act 2014
Desirable criteria
- Existing DSL/DSO experience in an education, health, or youth work setting
- Experience liaising with statutory safeguarding agencies
Direct contact role. This role may involve direct contact with young people in 16+ settings. In addition to safeguarding training, it requires an enhanced DBS check before you can begin, as set out in our Safeguarding Policy.
